How we rank
Every hotel on RoamList is ranked by one number: the Hotel score. It starts from the hotel's guest rating out of 10 and adjusts it for how many guests gave that rating.
Why review count matters
A 9.9 from three guests tells you less than a 9.6 from five hundred. So every hotel starts as if it already had 50 ratings of 8.0, a typical score for a good hotel. Real reviews then pull the score up or down. With many reviews, the Hotel score is close to the guest rating. With few, it stays near 8.0.
Hotel score = (50 × 8.0 + reviews × rating) ÷ (50 + reviews)
Who makes the list
- A guest rating of at least 8.5 out of 10, from at least 20 reviews.
- Within an area, the highest Hotel score comes first. Ties go to the hotel with more reviews.
- Ratings and hotel facts come from our supplier and refresh every night.
What never affects the order
- Commission. We earn money when you book through some links, and it plays no part in ranking.
- Payment. Hotels cannot pay to be listed or to move up.
- Price. RoamList ranks quality. Prices are shown by the booking site you choose.
